April TBR!

Heyo Bookaholics!

This feels like a late TBR…

I’ve been so slow in my reading progress lately. So in light of not having finished Underdog edited by Tobias Madden and my little internal crisis of not having put out a TBR for this month,

I am currently 3 stories into Underdog, the 12 short story anthology edited by Tobias Madden.

  • Meet and Greet by Michael Earp
  • Breathe Me In by Sophie L. Macdonald
  • Chemical Expression by Jes Layton

I interviewed Jes Layton on here last Saturday and let me say again that she is amazing to talk to, especially about writing! You can read my interview with Jes by clicking the link 🙂

I also keep misspelling the name of this book as Undergod. -_-

In Reading Order…

After Underdog, I am planning to read the following in the order they appear above (and below).

  • Ida by Alison Evans – This is one I’ve been wanting to read for a very long time, and with the mix of novels I picked out to read last month I feel like it fits the vibe perfectly. According to Goodreads, Alison has 7 books out, with their most recent release being Highway Bodies which sounds very ominous and highly intriguing!
  • Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare – ETERNAL SCREEEEEEMING!!! Go watch my unboxing of this book HERE on my YouTube channel. This is the third and final book in the Dark Artifices series, which is the third series in the Shadowhunter Chronicles. I cannot form coherent sentences when I think of these books, so yah.
  • Otherearth by Jason Segal and Kirsten Miller – I’m only reading this because I read the first novel and I’m a curious bugger who wants answers x

Have you read any of these???

I’d love to know if you have, please give me all your thoughts in the comments below!

March TBR

Heyo Bookaholics!

This has to be my favourite TBR so far!

I’m not saying that I’ve changed, but this might be achievable. 5 books in 31 days, one of which has already been completed, a second of which I am already 30 pages in.

The books I am planning to fly through this month include:

  •  Percy Jackson and The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan
  • Otherworld by Jason Segal and Kirsten Miller
  • Otherearth by Jason Segal and Kirsten Miller
  • Ida by Alison Evans
  • Queen Of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare

These are in order of how I plan to read them all. I want to get through the books/ series I have started already, which are coincidently all middle-grade novels, then I’ll move up genres as per increase in age.

I started and almost finished the Percy Jackson Series last November, of which I have reviewed four out of five of the books, with the last one on this TBR! You can read my reviews for The Lightning ThiefThe Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle Of The Labyrinth by clicking on the corresponding links above.

Queen of Air and Darkness, better known as QOAaD, because the title is insanely long and annoying to type (but actually magnificent). This book was my most anticipated release of 2018, and is now my most anticipated read of 2019! I cannot wait to get to it, but I put it last on my list due to the length of it and how long it will take me to read it. You’ll most definitely see it on my April TBR.

If you’d like to hear the reasons why I chose the other books on my list, you can watch the video I made on my channel where I talk more about the books on this list 🙂

MARCH TBR VIDEO!

You can watch my video below. I speak slower in this one. So you’re one of the ones who scrolled fast down to the bottom of this post, and aren’t as interested in reading a great big gushy post; or maybe you just want to support my ‘lil channel, you can find me in YouTube as Jasper + Spice.

I hope you enjoy xx Thank you for reading/ watching!

Choosing A TBR (Short Story) StoryTime Wednesday #24

Heyo Bookaholics!

Storytime Wednesday Is Back!

“If I hadn’t gone and purchased another five books, maybe choosing my TBR for this month wouldn’t be so hard.” Lilly’s exasperated sigh reached the phone, and a laugh was played back.

“You know Lil.” Rachel’s voice was muffled from the speaker being smooshed into the blanket of Lilly’s bed. “I think this book thing is crazy, but maybe a little logic can help you.” Lilly nudged the phone a little to clear the speaker.

“Huh?” Yeah right, like that was a good idea. If Lilly was ‘logical’ then she may have not purchased the books she really desired yesterday.

“Well don’t you receive advanced copies from publishers? What are the called AKS?”

“Yeah I do; and it’s ARC, like ‘ay-arrr-cee’ and not AKS.” Rachel laughed at that, the sound crackling through the room.

“Oh man, the playback from your phone is annoying! Put headphones on woman,” Rachel called out. Lilly winced slightly and turned away from her bookshelves to turn the volume down on her phone.

“Better?” She asked.

“Yeah. Much better. So what books have you received from publishers recently? Let’s start with those.” A rustling sound was made on Rachel’s end as she made herself comfortable for the book talk. Lilly smiled at Rachel being interested in her passions.

“Well. Are you sure you want to listen to this?” Lilly decided to give her an out. Rachel is the kindest soul she knows but is 100% not personally into books, choosing to go crazy over clothes and make-up.

“Oh shush you! Of course, I want to listen to you go crazy over books, or I wouldn’t have asked. Now tell me about the new ones,” she demanded teasingly. The smile on her face making it through the phone to Lilly who reciprocated it.

“I have two that come out early February, and one that was released in late January.” Lilly pulled three books from the shelf. A pink one with two girls on the cover, a holographic one, and a blue one with a person of colour on the cover. “I can’t choose which one to read first!”

“List them off for me.” A rustling sound came from the phone, then a pen click. Lilly smiled and hoisted the novels up in her arms standing before the phone like a performer on stage before an act.

“First up we have Watch Us Rise by Reneé Watson and Ellen Hagan; next is A Curse So Dark And Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer; and lastly I have What Momma Left Me also by Reneé Watson. The last one is the shortest novel of the three.” Lilly finished her speech still standing, her mind no clearer now than it was before speaking the titles.

“They all sound amazing! There you have it. That’s your February TBR. Don’t put too many on the list, you’re a busy woman.”

“Agh thank you! I’ll send you a photo,” Lilly spoke over Rachel’s last words and made a frantic grab for her phone, loudly tapping out a message.

She sent the following photo which can be found on her Instagram (@thebookishbree 😉

“Oh my gosh! These books are awesome!” Rachel loves aesthetics more than she loves books. “Okay, so which book was released first?” Scratching of pen on paper sounded through the phone like some ASMR video.

“Well,-“ Lilly rifled through the pages of all three novels. “Okay so, A Curse So Dark and Lonely was released late January, What Momma Left Me is first for the month of Feb, then Watch Us Rise.” She pouted her lips thoughtfully, arranging the books onto her side-table for easy access.

“Since that Curse book came out in January, I think you can put it on hold till later right?”

“Yeah, I agree. Maybe I should read What Momma Left Me first.”

“That’s a good plan. Didn’t you say it was the smallest too?” The scratching of pen on paper through the speaker made an appearance again.

“It is! I’m so excited to read it!” Lilly’s voice pitched a little at the end. and she hugged the book in question to her chest, giddy. “I think it should be first.”

“I think so too. What are you waiting for woman!” Pages rustled, the notebook shut and Rachel’s pen clicked a final time. “Get reading Lilly, you wonder-filled child.” Lilly didn’t need to be told twice.

“Thank you so much I actually love you, Rachel! Have fun journalling and doing your Rachel things!” Lilly signs out this way fairly often, but it still made Rachel giggle happily.

“You’re welcome, my Lil Bug. I love you too! Now get reading.” With that, the call clicked off abruptly and Lilly opened the book in her hands. Not wasting any time; not even bothering to sit down.

November TBR Pile

Heyo Bookaholics!

November is halfway done!

I’ve been horrible with my posting schedule this month. Assignments, work and expectations have been holding me back, but I’ve reminded myself to not abandon my books; to keep reading to relax and refresh my brain.

Trying new things is always fun, especially if they’re out of your comfort zone. This month I’ve chosen to pick up the full Percy Jackson series, something I’ve been putting off doing for years. Not because I had no interest in Percy’s story, but because I just didn’t feel drawn to reading about Greek mythology.

Recently I’ve gotten into a brilliant podcast called Myths and Legends. You can find it on Spotify, Apple podcasts, or anywhere you get podcasts. It’s amazing and the host, Jason Weizer tells the myths so well, sometimes quoting the text and other times adding in his own modern-day commentary.

I want to preface this by saying that I am in no way meaning this next bit as an insult, but just my views on the Greek myths.

Listening to the stories of the Greek myths, they all have the same strong themes of angry powerful men, misogyny, rape and unconsentual sex (I’m looking at you Zeus), as well as horrible punishments to the innocent female victims from Hera, but also Athena in the case of Medusa. I know that some of these themes show up in my beloved Norse myths but not in the excessive ways it does in Greek mythology.

Anyways, these stories really made me question if I wanted to read more about these Gods if the books will be overlooking all of the disastrous actions that took place. I had a strange conflict with myself that I can’t put into words, but in the end, I settled on reading about Percy and his gang or I know that I would feel eternally empty.

I made a video talking more about my TBR which you can watch by clicking this link or on the video below. It would mean so much if you gave it a watch and some feedback in the comments below.

Reading Status?

Since it’s already the 18th of November, I have started reading these books, I am currently on the third book in the series, Percy Jackson and The Titan’s Curse.

You can check out the reviews for the first two books at the links below:

Jay Kristoff Month aka October TBR

Heyo Bookaholics!

It’s Jay Kristoff Month!

DISCLAIMER: If you’d like to watch this TBR, you can do so by clicking this link or by playing the video at the bottom of the post!

This is the most exciting month for reading and probably the most daunting considering I have a bunch of deadlines coming up for university and work but I’ve chosen two of the most well-written novels by an amazing Melbournian author! With hopes that I finish the first two books, I’ve chosen a third to complete the list.

#PAZREADSGG

I will be participating in Piéra (@pieraforde) and Caz’s (@littlebookowl) readathon #pazreadsgg and reading GodsGrave by Jay Kristoff this month. Both these wonderful women have YouTube channels, Twitter and Instagram accounts, where you can keep up to date with the readathon and listen to them talk about books!

OCTOBER TBR!

I am finally going to get to read Lif3like which I am super stoked for! The book signing was so chill and like every Amie and Jay signing, we learnt a myriad many of new things which I detailed in my post about the event. You can read that post by clicking this link.

This month I’ve chosen to finish the NeverNight chronicles and finally start LifeLike, both of which I’ve had since their launches in Melbourne but never got around to. The official list of books includes LifeL1k3 and GodsGrave by Jay Kristoff, plus if I have time I will read The Light That Gets Lost by Natasha Carthew.

The Video Edition!

Thank you for reading! I really hope you love this post and the video, and if you’re reading any of these books this month leave a comment down below or you can discuss them with me on my Instagram and/ or Twitter. Be sure to watch out for the reviews of these books on this blog and/ or YouTube channel!!

A Short September TBR

Heyo Bookaholics!

The Teeniest Tiniest TBR.

I’m going to have the shortest TBR this month just consisting solely of books I didn’t read in August and one ambitious book I hope to get to (but know I most likely will not) so technically this TBR is 2 books long and I ain’t mad.

Recently I’ve been trying to get my shit together and try and take control of my own mind, and to do that I have to do a fair amount of prioritising and planning so I think 2 small books with my busy schedule and slow ability to read will be very achievable.

This month I have continued my TBR from August and chosen to read:

  • A Court of Frost and Starlight, a novella by Sarah J. Maas in companion to her A Court of Thorns and Roses series of which I have written a review for each book in the series. I am hoping to do a YouTube talk for this book once I finish it; it’ll be my first book talk on my channel!
  • I Have Such Friends, a book by Meg Gatland-Vaness which I poorly discussed in my August TBR video on Youtube. If you guys haven’t seen that video, you can click here to watch it.

A bonus book I want to read sometime this year (it has been on many TBRs) is Magnus Chase and The Ship of The Dead by Rick Riordan. It is the third book in the Magnus Chase and The Gods of Asgard series and I absolutely love it!

What Books Are You Reading This Month??

If you’re interested, I’d love it if you’d take time to read my reviews of Sarah J, Maas’ books by following the links below:

I’m really hoping to get through all these books this month, and I hope you all accomplish all your reading goals for this month too! The year has gone by so so fast, sometimes we need to slow down and give ourselves a smaller amount of books to really take in and enjoy.

2

What are the books you’ve chosen to read this month??

Are you looking forward to my book talk? I want to know what you all thought of ACOFAS if you’ve read it, and if you haven’t; what do you expect it to be???

June TBR + YouTube Announcement

Heyo Bookaholics!

In today’s post, I’ll be discussing my TBR for the month of June! This month I have a whole lot more free time to read and do other fun still like draft blog posts, edit videos, and journal lots! June will be the month of getting things done.

I will have my May (and kinda April) Wrap-Up posted next week so don’t forget to check that out next Saturday if you’re keen to see all the books I acquired during May but mostly April.

img_20180422_183945_929.jpg

Another thing before I announce my TBR; I received my Redbubble order of 20+ stickers which I showcased on my Instagram story (@thebookishbree); and as someone who was very hesitant to order from the site, I am quite pleasantly surprised with the quality of the stickers and the resolution. They came fairly quickly too which I was happy about. Now I just have to decide on their placement.

Onto the TBR!

April 2018 TBR + Potential YouTube Channel?!

Heyo Bookaholics!

I’m probably going to say this at the beginning of each month, but I seriously cannot believe it’s April already!

I have yet another TBR to share with you, and like last month I have stuck to 4 books and a special theme to help me in choosing these books.

April 2018 TBR Continue reading “April 2018 TBR + Potential YouTube Channel?!”

A Late an’ Ambitious February TBR!

Heyo Bookaholics!

We’ve made it to the end of the week, and I have posted every day that I promised!! Excuse me while I do a victory dance.

img20180202200822900224680.jpg

It is almost the middle of February and I have for you this months TBR! The only reason I am confident in posting this because well I haven’t even read half a book since Feb started, so in my eyes technically Feb hasn’t actually started. Continue reading “A Late an’ Ambitious February TBR!”
